The New Orleans Cocktail Tour
With such lax open container laws as can be countenanced in the United States, this tour probably can only occur in New Orleans. Elizabeth Pearce take her groups not only through the French Quarter itself, but the hundreds of years of history imbued, influenced and shaped by our eternal love and fascination with alcohol. Four drinks are served during the course of the two hour walk while she explains how history shaped the drink and how the drink shaped history.
A finer stroll could not be imagined.
The Cocktail Tour is the creation and brainchild of Ms. Pearce. A Louisiana Native she stumbled upon her current passion after the financial crisis ate her job as a curator for the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. A year of drinking, loving a musician, and unemployment followed - a time that she may call her “lost” year - however it led to her purchasing the site name www.thecocktailtour.com in 2010 and her new incarnation was born.
During the tour she takes on the spirits and personages of scandalous bootleggers, convivial Southern Politicians, and Still Operators posing as pharmacists in such an entertaining fashion. The only thing more interesting was seeing her deftly, but sternly, keeping control of the tour group - which as the evening and and cocktails drinking progressed - became like herding an increasingly unfocused group of inebriated cats.
Well worth the $45.00 per person charge. Sadly, but understandably, only those 21 and over may participate.
